Christmas Planetery Observation

Join Ranger Cade for a Christmas planetary observation session. Cookies, hot cider, and hot chocolate will be provided. Please bring a camping chair while you wait and enjoy the refreshments. Please dress for the weather. If you choose to bring your own light, please bring one with a red light setting and only use that setting for the best viewing experience. We will be targeting Jupiter, Mars, and possibly Saturn and some DSOs. We will be viewing with up to over 180x power through a 10" Dobsonian telescope. If the sky is cloudy, the program may be rescheduled for a better date. Please check your email for updates. If the program is rescheduled, you can keep your spot or receive a refund. The park will be closed to regular visitors at this time, if you are not signed up for the program or camping then you will not be permitted on park grounds. The meeting location is the playground parking lot (look for the Ranger truck).

First Day Hike

This year we will be taking the Panther Path and Old Wagon trails to make an easy-to-moderate 2-mile loop. We will be meeting near the Spoone Shelter parking area at 9:00 am. Please dress for the weather. Please register for this event by using the link below.

Tomahawk Toss

Panther Creek State Park 2010 Panther Creek Rd., Morristown, TN

Join Ranger Cade to enjoy one of America’s favorite pioneer pastimes. We will discuss a little bit about the history of the tomahawk, both as a tool and as a weapon. We will also practice the art of throwing with a high-quality tomahawk! This program is good for ages 11+. The cost is $5.00 per person. Register via the link. The meeting location is The Group Camp. The group campground is located on Cameron Rd at the bottom of the hill. Look for the ranger truck.

Moon Viewing

This night, the primary target will be the moon. If conditions are right, we may look for other targets as well. We will be viewing with up to 180x power through a 10" Dobsonian telescope. Please bring a camping chair to sit in while you wait. Please dress for the weather. If you choose to bring your own light, please bring one with a red light setting and only use that setting for the best viewing experience. The meeting location is the playground parking lot (look for a Ranger truck). The cost for the program is $6.50. You must register for the event using the event website link. If the sky is cloudy, the program may be rescheduled for a better date. Please check your email for updates. If the program is rescheduled, you will have the option to keep your spot or receive a refund. The park will be closed to regular visitors at this time, if you are not signed up for the program or camping then you will not be permitted on park grounds.

Build Your Own Hiking Stick

Come on out to Panther Creek State Park and join Ranger Mayfield as we construct our very own hiking sticks. We will be using files, rasps, sandpaper, and hammers to construct our very own hiking stick with a Panther Creek Medallion nailed onto the handle! All materials needed for this program will be $15.00 per person. Everyone must pre-register for this event via the link below. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather.

Spring Hike

Panther Creek State Park 2010 Panther Creek Rd., Morristown, TN

The Trout Lily trail is a moderate 2-mile loop that will take us along the lakeside and includes a healthy incline. We will have the opportunity to see various interesting plants and scenic views. Please bring closed-toed shoes and personal water and dress for the weather. This hike will be rain or shine, barring hazardous conditions. Keep in mind, there are no restrooms at the boat ramp area. Cherokee Lake Clean Up Day

Tennessee State Disc Golf Championship

Cherokee Park 3075 Floyd Hall Dr., Morristown, TN, United States

Utilizing the courses at Cherokee, Frank Lorino, Wayne Hansard Parks and Panther Creek State Park, this PDGA A-tier for both Pro and Amateur Divisions has helped Morristown become known as "Tennessee's Disc Golf Capital" Amateur Entry Fee $95.00. Includes a $4 PDGA fee and a $1 park rental fee. Players package. Trophies for divisions with 8 or more players registered by May 2nd. A limited number of player packages will be ordered so register early!  Professional Entry Fee is 125.00. Includes a $4 PDGA fee and a $1 park rental fee. $125 goes straight to your division's payout. At least $3000 added to the pro purse No minimum division requirements. Trophies for divisions with 8 or more players registered by May 2nd. Registration closes May 27, 2023. Check the tournament's website for information on lodging and additional activities.  

Stepping Out Turkey Trot 5k

Stepping Out is hosting its 3rd annual Turkey Trot 5k to be held in downtown Morristown. The Turkey Trot 5K will begin and end in the historic downtown area of Morristown, TN on Main Street. The course has mild elevation changes and a scenic route. Racers will be timed with chip technology and the course will be well-marked. Check Stepping Out's Facebook page for registration information.
